A day at the workshop: from cutting to sewing
How is a Dabi Leather piece born? Let’s tell the three-hour journey of a cardholder.
Leather selection
Everything starts with a leather hide. The thickness, grain direction, and natural marks on the surface are inspected. For fine items like cardholders, 1.2–1.5 mm leather is used; for belts, 3.5–4 mm leather is used.
Pattern and cutting
The pattern is transferred to the leather, and the pieces are cut in a single motion with a sharp blade. The cleaner the cut, the easier the edge finishing.
Edge finishing
Edges are beveled, sanded, painted, and burnished. This step is repeated; a good edge requires at least three coats.
Stitching
Stitching holes are punched with a diamond chisel, and the item is sewn using a two-needle saddle stitch. This stitch is different from machine stitching: if one thread breaks, the other holds.
Final inspection
The piece is waxed, polished, and if there is a name engraving, hot stamping is applied. Every product leaves the workshop with a care note.
