Leather care: Extend its lifespan in 10 minutes

Genuine leather is a living material: it absorbs and releases moisture, and softens with use. Proper care is not complicated; ten minutes once a month is enough.

1. Remove dust and dirt

Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cotton cloth. Clean the stitching gaps with a soft brush. Wet cloths, wet wipes, and cleaners containing alcohol dry out the leather; do not use them.

2. Condition

Apply a hazelnut-sized amount of colorless leather cream in circular motions with a cloth. Use little product, but many motions. Test the cream first on an inconspicuous area; vegetable-tanned leather may darken by a shade with cream and will lighten within a few days.

3. Let it rest

Let the product sit for an hour at room temperature, then lightly polish it with a dry cloth. Do not use radiators, hair dryers, or direct sunlight.

If it gets wet

Do not press to dry; blot the excess with a paper towel, fill the bag with paper to maintain its shape, and let it dry. Condition it after it is completely dry.

Storage

If you are not going to use it for a long time, store it in a cotton pouch in a cool, dry place away from plastic. Store bags stuffed so that they do not lose their shape.

Things you should not do

  • Shoe polish and colored wax
  • Wet wipes, detergents, alcohol
  • Drying on a radiator
  • Leaving it hanging under heavy loads for a long time
